Welcome to my Hawaii Page which is more or less a Kauai Page because I spent most of my time on that island. If you are an outdoors enthusiast, which I consider myself, then you have to go to this island. You can hike, fish, kayak, swim, camp, bike, surf, and even relax a bit if you get tired out. I started by flying into Lihue and then rented a car and drove to Wailua Falls and Opaekaa Falls. The following day I took a Kayaking trip down the Wailua River which was a blast being my first Kayaking trip ever. As a warm-up hike I hit the Kuilau Ridge Trail hike which has some spectacular views of Mount Waialeale during the 5 mile round-tripper. Then I made the short trek north to Haena Beech to get ready for the biggest reason I went to Hawaii - to hike the famed Kalalau Trail. I'll be damned if it wasn't the prettiest stretch of land I have ever seen. This is not a hike for the faint of heart though. It's constant up and down and has plenty of sharp ledges where you could easily plummet to your death after one wrong step - awesome! I saw more than one set of newlyweds turn right around after seeing how narrow the trail was around the cliffs. Without a doubt this was the coolest overnighter I have ever done. The following day I made my way to Waimea Canyon and Kokee State Park, both of which offer fantastic views. The Kalalau lookout at Kokee State Park is breathtaking and the weather there is much cooler than anywhere else I was at on the island. I found myself with a fleece top and pants on at night which was a nice change of pace after sweating it out at Kalalau beach. Visiting Kauai is a once in a lifetime experience unless of course you visit it twice....
